Location and Lobby
The Dana on Mission Bay, is a wonderful laid back resort hotel on ten acreas of beautiful landscaping. The Dana is an easy roll by wheelchair to Sea World (not longer than 15 minutes). The Dana has two restaurants, the Firefly and The Blue Pearl. There are many other great things about this hotel and the surrounding area, just click on the link above to go directly to their website.
There are 10 Accessible rooms in this hotel, two have a bay view, two are suites (which were occupied when I did this tour so there are no pictures), one has a view of Sunset Park, and the rest look out onto the parking lot. So be sure to be specific about your choice of view when booking a room. The staff at The Dana will be happy to assist you with any special equests you may have.
From the moment you check in at the accessible front desk at the right of the lobby entrance, until you check out, your stay at The Dana will be easy and enjoyable.
Room
This particular room has a king size bed, and plenty of room for a wheelchair to maneuver around. It is however a bit tight between the bed and the entrance to the bathroom. All Marina Cove accommodations feature separate vanity areas, refrigerators, microwaves, coffee makers, and in-room wireless internet (surcharge). There is a an easy access closet with a wheelchair-height hang bar. The television is to the right of the closet in the TV cabinet. The front door doesn't self-close, so be sure to have a graber with you to help close it. The furniture includes a round table with 2 chairs, and a combined stand-alone closet and TV cabinet.
Bathroom
The toilet is ADA compliant and there is a grab bar on the wall next to it. There is a sliding door into the bathroom that is easy to use. The sink counter has plenty of room to accomodate all of your toiletries. The towels are stored too high for someone in a wheelchair, so when you book your room (and again when you check in) be sure to remind the front desk that you need the towels moved to an accessible position. The roll-in shower does have adequate grab bars and there is a hand held shower head. However, you are going to need to request a shower bench and a rubber bath mat when you book the room because these items are not in each handicapped room.
